Grabbing Your Dreams, While Pushing Past The Pain

Grabbing Your Dreams, While Pushing Past The Pain

It's amazing what fear can do to a person, whether it's perceived or real. But the real problem with fear is that we can allow it to stop us from moving forward to achieve our dreams. Lots of times, we associate fear with pain so instead of even trying we'd rather not try in hope of avoiding pain. We concern ourselves with what others might think about us if we have the ability to achieve what we desire or even if we do achieve our dreams, will we be able to live up to the expectation that come with succeeding? The truth is most people never really have to worry about these issues because they aren't even willing to try. I have learned that in order to take one step forward we must take a risk, and as Nike says "Just Do It!"

A few years ago my son, Tyrone was planning in a basketball tournament. He road with the team and I arrived a few minutes later. Once I got to the game, Tyrone came up to me complaining about a stomachache. I told him to just sit out the first half, and maybe he would feel better for the second half. It was brought to our attention that if Tyrone didn't play in the first half he would not be able to participate in the game at all. Tyrone said "No way, I want to play!" As the game got started, Tyrone was on the basketball floor holding his stomach and trying to run up and down the court. He was obviously in pain, but he pushed through it. As I sat there watching him I noticed a very interesting thing happen. When his teammate came down the court and threw the ball to Tyrone, he straightened up, grabbed the ball, took it down the court and went for a lay-up. Immediately after he threw the ball up, he came down and grabbed his stomach. Luckily enough, his team won that game. What that experience taught me is Tyrone just didn't see a ball being passed by his teammate, he saw his dreams, his goals, his desires. He was able to put the pain aside long enough to do what he knew he had to do with the basketball to help his team to a victory.

Ask yourself, what do you do when pain hits you? What happens when you are disappointed; hurt because someone does not believe in you; scared of going after your dreams? Do you look that pain in the face and truly see your dreams coming toward you or do you just give into the pain and allow your dreams to pass! In order to make a difference in today's world, be willing to face your fears. We will be faced with challenges, with fears and with pains, but there will be those times when you must set the pain to the side for a moment and grab hold of our dreams. We are all scared of grabbing hold of our dreams, but the issue is not in the fear. What are you willing to do with it?

Realize pain might be there, but don't let it stop you. Sometimes, be willing to move it to the side, if only for a moment, and then persevere. Go in the direction that is your true destination.
